Bertha's Flying Adventure
Bertha's flying adventure is about a little dog who loves to fly and get the wind in his ears. On her journey around the world, she visits different animals, all of whom know a new rhythm with different sounds.
In this story, the student must come up with rhythms and new sounds for the head joint. The rhythms can be clapped, danced to and played with sounds on your head joint.
To begin with, I have found four sounds that you can make on the head joint, but these are not necessarily the sounds that will be used in the story. Therefore, I have added several head joints without suggestions on how to play sounds. The students themselves can come up with sounds for these "empty" head joints.
During the story, at each new page there are two blank head joints. Draw on the head joint how the sound should be and, if necessary, circle the place in the text where the sound should be played.
The students also have to come up with new rhythms. I have inserted an empty measure on the pages after the head joints, where you can write the rhythm. In addition, under the rhythm you have written yourself, you must color the dog's paws that match that particular rhythm. The story here is a kind of composition story, where the student himself has to write both rhythms and the sounds on which the rhythms are to be played. By letting the students themselves create the rhythms and sounds that will be used for this story, it will hopefully give them greater ownership of the music. All the things they need to know to play along in this story will hopefully make the students find it more fun to play their instrument and maybe what they need to learn will be better learned through this method.
Anne is a flute teacher based in Denmark with more than 20 years of teaching experience. She is always in the search for new fun ways to teach the flute and most recently she was trained as a Music Mind Games teacher. She completed her masters degree in flute and flute pedagogy at Nordjysk Music Conservatorium in Denmark. At Rudersdal Music School, where she teach the flute, she also teaches elementary music education. Anne completed a degree in Art and Culture intermediary from the University College Sjælland. Her favorite color is red and yellow like a beautiful sunset. Due to a lack of good flute method books in Danish for little students, Anne wrote her own flute method book! This book is now being translated to English by her daughter. It is important to Anne that kids who start learning music at an early age are given the best start which includes a lot of laughter and fun games.
