Elizabeth lives in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains where she teaches flutists of all ages and performs in the duo Terra Voce with her cellist husband, Andrew Gabbert. Elizabeth has taught for over 25 years, and has worked with young children since 2013. She is trained in the Suzuki method through Book 2 and is excited to be enrolled in Kinderflute training this summer. Elizabeth believes that a child’s age, learning style, and family situation determine the method and instructional approach. She is relentless in looking for new and creative ways to make lessons fun and engaging for her students. The unbridled delight and triumph of a 5-year-old producing a sound on the flute for the first time is one of her greatest joys! A former professional orchestral musician, she is committed to continuing her musical quest by studying improvisation, Brazilian musical styles, and most recently, the ukulele. When she’s not teaching or making music she enjoys hiking, gardening, cooking and dabbling in watercolor painting. Her favorite color is periwinkle blue, she loves ginger-lime cookies, and she adores her 7-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi, Yo-Yo. Elizabeth holds the D.M. degree in Flute Performance from Indiana University and teaches at Longwood University in addition to her home studio.
