The Christmas Cookie Game
The Christmas Cookie Game is a quick and yummy way to practice simple rhythms with your student. Use the included flash cards or use your own note flash cards if you would rather practice note identification! This game is wonderfully adaptable. Play with two players or make a copy and play with four!
To prepare, print one plate page, the rhythm flash cards (with optional Christmas pattern on the reverse), and the cookies. Laminate if desired then cut out the cards and cookies. Place the cookies in a bowl or bag so that it is a surprise when you pick your cookie! Place the flash cards in a pile, face down, beside the plate game board.
Begin the game by saying, "One of Santa's reindeer has found the Christmas cookies before Santa and he has nibbled some!" Start playing by picking a cookie. If it isn't nibbled, choose a flash card and clap the rhythm. Place your cookie on your plate for Santa. If it has been nibbled, then you must take a cookie off your plate and the game passes to the other player. The player with the most cookies on their plate wins!
Happy playing,
Kathy
